                                                              Women's Results 2011/2012

                                                              2011-2012 Season Results:

As a warm up to our BUCS season the Women's team travelled on Sunday 16th to Leeds for a friendly tournament. The day was a huge success with the team returning to Sheffield feeling really positive about the season ahead.
The day started well with a solid win over Leeds 2nds. After a slow and shaky first half, the newly constructed team found their stride and soon enough goals came thick and fast from Kim Meadowcroft and Sarah Gibson in attack with great transitional play from Tamara McCombe in goal all the way to Becky Reilly in deep attack.
Our second game meant a win over Newcastle 2nds with goals being scored by Kim, Sarah, Grace Mills and Olivia Jensen. This fantastic team performance over a premiership BUCS league team stands our Women's team in good stead for our upcoming games.
Later in the day tough games against Leeds Met 1sts and Durham 2nds allowed the girls to focus on room for improvement and develop a strong defensive strategy. The team remained strong and battled hard with us narrowly losing to Leeds Met by only 1 goal (9-8)
All in all the day was a great success, a perfect opportunity to test this season's competition, develop the most effective team make up and focus on areas of play that can be improved. Well done everyone, we look forward to the season ahead!

                                                              19th Oct- Sheffield v. Leeds 1sts Away
                                                              Score- 6-17

The first BUCS game of the season fell on Club Captain Imogen's 20+1 birthday, so even though we lost the game we still had the opportunity to celebrate with party treats. The game's end result was disappointing for Sheffield, not accurately reflecting the standard of play we are capable of. However it provided a good opportunity to work out our strongest team make up and note some basic flaws in aspects of our defensive and attack play which we can now rectify.
Goal scorers included Kim Meadowcroft, Sarah Gibson and Harriet Bullough. Defensively with, at times, girls playing out of position, Sheffield stayed positive and defended with grit and determination under mad skillz Tammy.
All in all, regardless of the score the game was an indication of Sheffield's determination to battle hard until the end. 'Bitch of the pitch' went to Clarissa Hearn in defence and unsurprisingly Kim 'game face' Meadowcroft was appointed 'dick of the day' for being big, Northern and aggressive.
Tune in next week for when we destroy Durham.

                                                              26th Oct- Sheffield v. Durham 2nds Home
                                                              Score: 6-14

On a lovely sunny Autumn afternoon, Sheffield women's team defeated Durham. Mentally. Despite losing the match overall, Sheffield came away from the game as winners having psychologically defeated Durham.
The first half started well with both teams battling furiously for time in front of the net. However despite amazing communication in defence from Katie Allam and Aya Yoshida, some brilliant saves from Bitch of the Pitch Tammy Mad Skillz, and goals from Harriet Bullough and Olivia Jensen, the first half ended 10-2 to Durham.
After a cheery team talk Sheffield re-entered the game, more determined than ever to work on points of weakness such as reacting to the 'red call' in defence and more active movement in attack.
Sheffield proceeded to storm their way through the second half, drawing 4-4 with the keenos in purple. As beautifully constructed goals came from Kim Meadowcroft, Sarah Gibson, Imogen Lyons and Georgie Matthews, Sheffield were spurred on to maintain their aggression and battle Durham until the very end.

The pressure put on Durham in the second half caused sloppy play from the purple poshies with Sheffield's defensive unit restricting Durham's goal difference immensely. A fantastic game overall, Sheffield came away with high hopes for the remainder of the season.
Dick of the day- Kim... again.
