Welcome to NEMLA Lacrosse - THE TANGER ARMY WELCOMES YOU!
Welcome to the internet home of the original Sheffield University Men's Lacrosse Club (SUMLC).
The University of Sheffield Lacrosse team was first founded in the autumn of 1961, consisting of those previous to the sport and also beginners. The first year was mainly friendly matches but by 1962 the mens team participated in the 4th division of the Northern Legaue. By 1965 the team moved up to the 2nd division, reaching the University Cup finals. Notably the team has on several occassions played in the Senior Flags Final.
Even though orignally the teams colours were black and orange (as adopted by the alumni team Jedi Lacrosse) the official colours of todays team are Tangerine and Royal Blue. Hence the adopted nickname...the TANGER ARMY!
In recent years the team have began to re-establish themselves with the 2009 mens team winning a league/cup double and the university championship, as well as being awarded Team of the Year at the University Annual Sports Awards Dinner!!! In 2010 the newly promoted team again won a league and cup double earning the club Premiership status, the first time in a decade, as well as being the highest club in the league within the realms of the YCLA.
The clubs' history has seen many players put on the coverted shirt, check the Honour Roll, to find which big British names have played at SUMLC! Also click here to find a selection of cuttings from the early 1980's era.
If you have any memorabilia you could share we would love to here from you, especially in the 50th Anniversary Year. Also on that note please email us a contact point for yourself if you are interested in being at the 50th Dinner, arrangements are currently being made, but we anticipate it to be in late April 2011.
